"Chevy's: Fresh Mex"- A Mexican Fusion of Flavors
A little piece of Mexico in Orlando
Let me paint a picture for you. Brightly colored walls, the sizzling aroma of grilled peppers, onions, and steak electrifying your senses, the sounds of laughter and chatter fill the room. What and where is this place you say? Well mi amigos, it is a little piece of Mexico in Orlando, and it is simply known as 'Chevy's'.
Conveniently located right by Disney property in Lake Buena Vista, it is a local hot spot and tourist favorite. Known for their flavorful margaritas and handmade tortillas, this is the place to be for Cinco de Mayo, or any day of the year for that matter.
I have been to 'Chevy's' a number of times. So many times really that I can't even count. The food is superb and the portions are enormous. At the beginning of each meal, you are served complimentary, homemade salsa alongside their warm, house tortilla chips.
The salsa is just sinful. Full of robust flavors and a mild spice, I could literally go through bowls of this stuff. To add an element of creaminess to my 'dipping experience', I also enjoy having an order of their "Fresh Guac" ($8.99). Made from ripe, Hass avacados, diced jalapenos, mild pico de gallo, and a bit of hand-squeezed, lime juice it is made of the utmost, freshest ingredients. This deliciously, delectable dish can be shared generously among family or family. Now what's so unique about this appetizer is that it prepared right at your table! Toting a large mortar and pestle, your waitress/waiter prepares this heavenly, fusion of flavors right in front of you with your choice of mild, medium, or hot. There is no denying the greatness of the Guac! It is a 'Chevy's' must-have.
If you are looking for a light and satisfying entree, try the "Mesquite-Grilled Tacos". This delightful entree consists of two, handmade, flour tortillas with your choice of grilled chicken or steak, topped with crisp lettuce, a mild pico de gallo, cotija cheese (a crumbly, imported, Mexican cow's milk cheese) and finished off with chipotle aioli.
For those of you that love to sample a little bit of everything, I recommend going with a "Fresh Mex Combo". Basically what this combination entails is you choosing any two of the following items: tacos, tamales, or flautas. Each combination is served with their signature, sweet corn tamalito (MY FAVORITE, did I say that loud enough?), choice of beans (black, re-fried, or vegetarian), as well as generous, scoops of guacamole and sour cream to top it all off. Now if you really, REALLY are toting an appetite you may be so bold to opt for a 3,4, or 5 item combo. Hold on to your sombreros, you will be in for a bumpy, yet delicious ride.
As a beverage of choice, I like to accompany my entree with one of their house Margaritas made from premium, gold tequila or a bold, Mexican cerveza (Corona, Dos Equis, or Modelo). Happy Hour is from 2 pm to close daily. So make sure you ask your waiter or waitress for the latest, drink specials. But just remember, do save some room for dessert. Their deep, fried ice cream and flan are to be reckoned with.
If you want to relax at an enjoyable, sit-down lunch, 'Chevy's' does offer weekly, lunch specials served Monday-Friday until 3 pm starting at a reasonable price of $6.99 an entree. And for those of you with children, kids eat FREE every Tuesday!
So if you are in the Lake Buena Vista area, why not try 'Chevy's'. There is no denying that 'Chevy's' is 'numero uno" in the Orlando area.
