Nickelodeon Suite Resorts Orlando, Florida
The Perfect Inexpensive Solution to a Weekend Family Getaway
It was two days before my daughter’s 3rd birthday and my Disney plans fell through. I was scrambling last minute to find a suitable place where my husband and I could relax for a weekend while the kids were entertained; without breaking the bank. I thought about cartoon characters my daughter enjoys and then it hit me… Nickelodeon Suites Resort
Making a Reservation
I contacted a reservation agent expecting to be told that there no vacancies, or if by some chance there had rooms available-there would be an added experience or inflated rate for last minute reservations. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised the agent offered me a last minute special for Florida Residents. For a luxury family character themed suite, complimentary breakfast, onsite attractions, and character greets, for only $140.00 for two nights. I must admit, I was impressed. It was the perfect inexpensive solution to a last minute weekend getaway.
This was my least favorite part of the experience. Like most hotels, check in time is at 4:00PM. We arrive on property approximately 3:20PM thinking that we were early. My kids were astonished by the vivid colors and larger than life size Nick Characters surrounding each building. But upon entering the hotel lobby there was wall-to-wall people waiting to check-in. Kids running around, people sitting on the floor waiting. So, we just got in the slow moving line with the rest. This was late September; I hate to see what their lobby looks like during peak seasons.
It was just what we were looking for! It was bright and cheery. The layout could be described as a mini studio. There was a living area with a flat screen T.V.
The master offered a comfortable king size bed with a window view, tube TV, and vanity area.
The kids got to enjoy a bunk bed and character themed walls, and tube TV included as well.
The Nick Resort offers two pool locations on each side of the property the Lagoon and Oasis Pools.
The Lagoon Pool has a zero-depth entry heated pool anchored by a four-story interactive water tower featuring seven water slides, flumes, climbing nets, water jets. During our stay, we found the pool facilities to be below average. The water is the Lagoon Pool was cloudy. We suspect this may have been attributed to the volume of people in the pool at one time.
You can relax with your kids in two family-size whirlpool spas. There are private poolside cabanas available with comfortable lounge chairs, fan, and TV and towel service. Food stations are located poolside to grab bite and refreshments at the Lagoon Grill & Bar.
Located on the west side of the property is the Oasis Pool. A water park featuring a heated Olympic size pool with water slides and flumes in a multi-level interactive water tower, a kid's play area and poolside cabanas. After bringing my 3 year old to the kiddie splash zone, it seemed like it was in need of repair. Many of the rubberized walking areas were worn and overgrown with algae.
If you’re planning a future stay at the Nickelodeon Suites, be advised there are FREE scheduled live shows and activities. One of the most popular is (and what Nickelodeon is famous for is SLIME) the Mass Sliming activity located at the Lagoon pool. Kids and adults get to stand under a massive 400-gallon dump tank to anticipate the green slimy ooze Slime that awaits.
The other live show is the Double Dare Show. Located in the Mall area next to the Kid’s Spa, this show engaged the audience and encourages participation. Kids are selected from the crowd to volunteer on stage to participate in Double Dare physical challenges while having creative, interactive fun. My 6 year old daughter was excited to be selected. Just to see her personality shine through in front of a live audience, tickled me. This was one of the highlights of our stay indeed. *TIP- This show fills up fast. Be sure to reserve your space with the guest service desk at check-in.
The kids were amazed to meet their favorite characters in person. Inside the Mall the Nick characters such as Dora the Explorer, Boots, SpongeBob Square Pants, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ming Ming from the Wonder Pets, make an appearance to give hugs and take pictures with your loved ones. *TIP – Know what time your favorite character will arrive and get in line at least 40 minutes before. The line forms fast!
My overall was experience was positive. I set out to find am affordable place to celebrate my daughter’s 3rd birthday while enjoying quality family time, and I can say I accomplished that. We made some precious memories here that we will always remember. If you have little ones, I’d recommend any family to visit Nickelodeon Resort Suites just once. As long as you don’t mind all the kiddies at this hotel, you’ll have the “SLIME of your life!”
