Orlando, Florida - Review Experience

Enjoy Beautiful Blooms throughout the Year

Harry P. Leu Gardens is a 50 acre botanical garden that sits on the shores of Orlando’s Lake Rowena. This serene garden offers a nice, relaxing respite from the razzle-dazzle of the local theme parks. The paths you will wander down will lead you through moss draped oaks, camellias, palms and giant camphor’s.

Through the months of October to March you can witness over 50 different species of over 2,000 camellia plants in bloom. There are also over 75 types of roses in the formal gardens that are on-site, as well as desert plants, perennials and annuals, azaleas and orchids. The gardens are also home to a butterfly garden, bamboo, and of course palms.

The gardens were created when the former citrus entrepreneur, Harry P. Leu, donated his own 49 acre estate in the 1960s to the city.

Arriving at the Gardens

Harry P. Leu Gardens are located just a short drive from downtown Orlando. Upon entering you are bound to notice the floral clock that is over 50 feet tall. The garden is also home to Mary Jane’s Rose Garden, which has been named after the wife of Harry Leu, and has claims to being the largest rose garden in all of Florida. Upon admission to the gardens you can also access the House Museum, which was once Leu’s actual home. All of the appointments and furnishings reflect the lifestyle of a family of high status during the early 20th century in Florida.

No matter what time of year you choose to visit the gardens you will see blooms and color. You will get to see some unusual and exotic plants and flowers and take a relaxing stroll under the branches of oaks, elms and the camphor trees.
